Do you have end of the year jitters? With only days until the glorious beginning of fall, are you feeling overwhelmed and pulled in way too many directions? In your pursuit of everything, are you accomplishing nothing?
Yes, I see those hands! Can we all stop for a minute, take a deep breath, and tell ourselves it’s going to be OK?
Here’s the thing. Stop trying to do it all! Seriously, we were never meant to do Every. Freaking. Thing. It leads to exhaustion, burn-out, and doing things we basically suck at. But if we want to go a step further – it’s our own fault that we let this happen. We choose to say yes too much and we make our to-do list a thousand miles long. I understand we have responsibilities and part of it is out of our control, but most of it is and if we want change, we have to start it ourselves
But here’s the flip side. We were never meant to do everything, but we are meant to do something. Your life is designed with strengths, talents, and gifts that people need. Your part in the world matters. So instead of chasing after a multitude of things that don’t really matter, what if you put your energy into those things that do?
As we approach the end of the year, what do you want to accomplish? What do you need to put your energy into? And what do you need to drop like a hot potato?
Don’t give up. Don’t decide to just coast through the remainder of the year and try again next year. No. No. NO! You’ve got this – it’s just a matter of simplifying, being strategic, and making it happen.
After rereading this email, I realize I asked one million questions but I hope you will take a minute to answer a few of them. I am guilty of pursuing way too many projects (take a look at my “ideas” list) and I want to do things differently. I know that to make the biggest impact with my life, I have to narrow my focus on how I use it.
I took a few minutes and wrote down the things I really want to accomplish in these remaining months. I crossed off a lot off things, and stuck to the things that really matter. I hope you will do the same!
Are we supposed to do everything? No.
Are we supposed to do something? Yes.
Let’s agree today that we aren’t meant to do everything, but we will do something.
