I love the first day of a new year! It’s the turning of a page, a chance to start new, leaving behind the old and starting fresh. January 1st is the opportunity to close your eyes, take a deep breath, and give fresh energy to you life. I love the clean feeling that a new year can bring. Can you tell that I love January 1st?
Some of you are right there with me. If so, you probably love the feel of a brand new notebook that’s never been written in, or opening page one of a book, or even starting a new bottle of body wash. There’s just something so cleansing and refreshing about something new. Does anything really magical happen on January 1st? No, not really. But it can be a significant day if we let it.
One of my intentions for 2017 is to show you how to live life well. Yes, I hope to encourage and inspire you but I want to take it one step further and show you how to implement those things into your life. I want you to not only know that your life matters, but how do you make it matter. I want you to want to live your life well, but I want to make sure that you understand how that looks and plays out in your life.
So let’s talk practical for a minute. What can yo do today to make sure that 2017 is a great year?
- Know what worked in 2016. What were the highlights of last year? What are you grateful for? What did you do well? These things are important to know and will create good habits to continue in 2017
- Know what didn’t work in 2016. What goals simply aren’t happening in your life? What didn’t work? What negative moments of 2016 do you need to let go of? What things are simply out of your control and you need to distance yourself from this year?
- Simplify your goal list for 2017. Write down your goals for the year and then go ahead and cross a few off before you even start. Less is more people. I always encourage others to start the year off with ONE goal in January. That’s right, one.
- Put action to your words. One reason people don’t accomplish the things they want in life is because they never really try. Or we spend so much time creating our list, that the goal never leaves the paper. I believe that small steps lead to big leaps in your life and so any amount of action towards your goal is a good thing!
I will go into more detail about these in the coming weeks but if you haven’t already, take a few minutes and answer these questions. Bonus points if you write them down! Can 2017 be better than 2016? Yes! If 2016 wasn’t your best year, do you have to carry the weight of it over into 2017? No! But it’s really up to you and the perspective you decide to take. For me, I’m going into 2017 believing that it will be my best year yet! Create more, do more, live the life I want, and impact more lives. And I hope the same for you. So take a deep breath and get ready – because we are going to live life well this year!
