Happy New Year everyone! I hope these first few days of 2018 have brought about hope, a fresh start, and a belief that you will keep going to the gym after January 15th. As I type this, I’m eating a Reese’s Peanut Butter cup so I’m not sure how my healthy eating is going, but I’ll balance it out with a salad tomorrow so it’s all good!
I love the start of a new year! It really is an opportunity to let go of the crap from last year, to build on the successes, and to embrace the chance to see new things happen in your life. I’m a goal-setter, a big dreamer, and a believer that things will happen in your life if you’re willing to put in the work. Yes, I’m one of those people and I love it!
I decided to start 2018 off with a quote. Who better than my favorite person Oprah to inspire us with a powerful statement. “Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life, because you become what you believe.” There’s so much to unpack here, and I will over the next few weeks, but today I want to encourage you with the last few words – you become what you believe.
What do you believe about your life? If you’re honest with yourself, what do you think is possible within yourself? I think one of the biggest reasons we don’t do more with our life is because of our unbelief. We doubt our abilities, we fear failure, and we get comfortable with where we are. This becomes what we believe and therefore, what we become.
For me, 2017 was a fantastic year in many respects. I got to Skype with Hoda and Kathie Lee on The Today Show, I won an amazing trip to Palm Springs, I jumped out of a plane, and I went ziplining. Awesome stuff, right? Yes! But I will admit I also lost some of my belief that I can do great things with my life. I settled more for average and just getting by when it came to my career and other goals and dreams. And guess what? I wasn’t as excited about where I was in life. I became what I believed. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t me.
That’s why I’m changing my mantra for 2018. I want to believe more in what is possible for my life and allow that mindset to help me become that which I believe. With that, we can start creating big visions for our life and understand that we are worth those big dreams because our life matters. It’s good stuff, people!
Take a few minutes and do a self-assessment. Decide today what you want to believe about yourself, write it down, and let’s work together to make 2018 the year we become the person we were always meant to be. Don’t worry – there will be some bumps along the way, some ups and downs, but it’s quite possible that this time next year we are better people and doing things we never thought possible! And that will happen when we decide today to become what we believe.
We might even go to the gym twelve months instead of just one – crazy, I know!
